On the evening of December 12, Hancock hosted its “Moments Make Memories” Winter Show, a student-led performance with students turning out to volunteer and help their schools.
Those who performed, did so in front of an audience of hundreds of their peers, faculty members, and parents.
There were many students volunteering in the lunchroom, working to serve concessions to audience members before and during the show–specifically dealing with a rush during intermission, as a crowd of hungry attendees entered the room.
Another type of volunteer working on the technical side of the show, Ashley Garcia-Valdivia, a Hancock senior, was one of the four students involved in programming the light patterns for each performance.
In Ms. Baranoff's theater production class, these students “had been programming the lighting patterns for each performance in class over the last week or two,” says Garcia-Valdivia. While being in charge of lighting booths backstage with two other people, Garcia-Valdivia, who handled the main board, worked with Ms. Baranoff while they communicated over headset with the classmates manning the spotlights.
As a result of their time spent backstage, aiding in making the shows as they went on, Garcia-Valdivia said they’ve “definitely gained a unique perspective on what it means to be a part of a production like this and am now even more excited for our spring play of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland being something I'll be just as proud of.”
On the evening of December 13, Hancock hosted the Winter Concert in the Black Box.
Senior Camila Rosales who “performed for everything, the piccolo for beginning band, the snare drum for drumline, and the flute for advanced band and then a drum pad for one of the band’s songs” said “people were talking like ‘Oh, I’m so nervous’ but we got through.
We did our best and that's all that mattered.” Adding onto that, Rosales also said, “It was pretty chaotic but in the end, it turned out pretty well.”
