Computer Science Department
Technology permeates almost every aspect of our lives. Most people are carrying smartphones in their pockets that can perform the calculations of 1,000,000 computers that were used to land a man on moon in 1969. Technology has transformed the way in which we live, work and communicate. Most jobs today in government, commerce, education, manufacturing, health industries, entertainment, science and engineering require the use of computers.
There are two major goals of the Computer Science Department at John Hancock High School. One is to educate all students in the disciplines of Computer Science. The other is to teach them to apply their education in the solving of practical problems in a socially responsible way.

- Exploring Computer Science - an introductory class that is applicable to everyone. This is a required course for graduation.
- AP Computer Science Principles
- Object Oriented Programming using Java (this is a Dual Credit course coming in 2018-2019)
