Ms. Velazquez started teaching at John Hancock College Prep High School in 2020. She currently teaches English II, English IV, and Film Studies. She graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a degree in Secondary Education English and a minor in Latino and Latin American Studies. Before becoming a high school teacher, she worked as a Youth organizer for a community organization, Palenque LSNA, where she founded the after-school club "Estudiantes Sin Fronteras" which brought awareness to resources available for the undocumented community. This group went on to become a finalist for the Obama Youth Leadership Award.
Ms. Velazquez has lived in Logan Square for over 20 years. Becoming an English teacher was one of her biggest goals in life, as she wants to continue to work with youth and encourage them to become leaders in their communities and the remaining world.
