Ms. Pilar graduated from UIC with a degree in English and earned a Masters Degree in Teaching and Instruction from Dominican University and also a Masters in Literacy from NEIU.
Soon after receiving her first Masters, Ms.Pilar began her professional teaching career at Hancock. She has taught English Language Arts at every grade level. She hopes that all students will leave her classroom prepared to read and write at the college level and that they will have the confidence to express themselves effectively in any setting, not just academically, but professionally and also personally.
In addition to teaching, Ms.Pilar started the Culinary Arts Club. CAC meets monthly and is committed to serving the people of Chicago by completing service learning projects that incorporate cooking all over the city. Ms.Pilar also coaches Co-ed Cheerleading which gives students the opportunity to improve their dance, acrobatic, and tumbling skills. The squad is competitive and participates in Chicago City Wide and State Competition every year.
This year Ms.Pilar teaches Freshmen and Sophomore Honors English. When she isn't spending time with her friends and family, she loves spending time with her Hancock family fostering the needs of her diverse students!
