Sra. Maria Paz Joyce (formerly Martinez)- Bienvenidos a la clase de español

 
Ms. Joyce (formerly Ms. Martinez) grew up in the northern part of Spain, Galicia. She graduated with a B.A. and a M.A. in English Philology from the University of Salamanca in Spain. Ms. Joyce moved to Chicago in 1989. She worked as a Program Coordinator for Roosevelt University where she also graduated with a M.A. with Honors in Spanish Literature in 1997. She began her teaching career at Darwin Elementary school in 1997. At this school she taught 5th and 7th bilingual grade classes as well as World Language classes. During her years at Darwin school she also organized International Student trips for eight grade students to Italy as well as Chile.  For several years she was the Bilingual Coordinator and also the World Language Coordinator.  During this time, Ms. Joyce also taught undergraduate and graduate Spanish Language and Literature classes at Roosevelt University in the evenings and Saturday mornings. In 2008 she became National Board Certified teacher. Ms. Joyce have just renewed the National Board certificate on World Languages/Early Adolescence through young adulthood for another 10 years.
 
Ms. Joyce started teaching at John Hancock College Prep High school in 2010. She currently teaches Spanish Speakers I, Dual Credit Spanish 101 (Adjunct Professor at Daley College) and 102 and AP Spanish Literature and culture. Ms. Joyce is the Department Chair for the World Language department.
She also sponsors the International Club that provides students the opportunities to travel internationally. Students had the opportunity to travel with Ms. Joyce in 2015 and 2016 to Italy, in 2018 to  Costa Rica, in 2020 (right before the pandemia) to Spain. We are working the planning for our next trip on 2024 (soon to be announced)
